21st Century Learning Design

This course prompts educators to consider what learning environments are required for the 21st century. Using a set of rubrics, which have been developed and tested internationally for the Innovative Teaching and Learning (ITL) Research project, the course will enable educators to think about designing deeper learning environments which in turn help students develop key skills for living in the 21st century.
The 21CLD curriculum describes six rubrics of 21st century learning, each of which represents an important skill for students to develop. These are:
  1. Collaboration
  2. Skilled communication
  3. Knowledge construction
  4. Self-regulation
  5. Real-world problem-solving and innovation
  6. Use of ICT for learning
This course, suitable for both primary and post-primary educators, will explore the development of these skills through lively debate and discussion.
