Building Bridges, Not Barriers - How Strong Relationships can Transform the Primary Classroom

Hayley Rice will begin with an introduction to interpersonal neurobiology and the science behind relationships- how we are wired for relationship, why we work best when we feel connected and the fundamental need we have for belonging.

She will describe the benefits of using relationship to foster co- operation in the primary school classroom. Clear examples of how relationships impact on co-operation will be given and linked to research.

The challenges to fostering relationships in the classroom will be discussed and she will trouble shoot perceived limitations.

Hayley will outline a number of quick, easy and inexpensive ways that teachers can build relationships, connection and co- operation with young children. These will be playful, interactive and child- centred.
