Puppet Making Workshop for Teachers & SNAs

Puppet making is an exciting way to develop creativity and a way for students to explore interpersonal skills.Jay Ryan (Living with a Fairy, RTE) is offering workshops for teachers that aim to increase confidence in making and manipulation puppets.Making puppets with your class is a marvelous medium for combining several skills together.   Not only is the making of the actual puppet a uniquely creative endeavour for your students but you can then use their creations to assist with other areas of the curriculum.  Here is how!

Making and using puppets helps pupils to connect with a character and feeds into their creative writing skills

  • Students can use the puppets they have made to explore stories and scenarios is an exciting way - this could be used to complement history lessons
  • It has been noted that when students speak through a puppet they gain in confidence, and feel safe ‘behind’ their puppet character
  • Puppet making is a craft and children will learn new skills and explore their creativity through the process of designing and making a puppet (Art and Design)
