Meeting the needs of students with SEN

Meeting the needs of students with special educational needs by increasing knowledge and understanding of conditions and assessment of needs:

To provide teachers with a knowledge and understanding of conditions such as ASD, SLD, ADHD, Dyslexia. This includes how the condition may affect the child in the learning environment. In light of the new resource allocation model the course will include an examination of assessments that can be used to assist teachers determine the needs of students. The course also includes an examination of how ICT can be used to assist the inclusion process for students with SEN.

Each participant will complete a reflective diary at the end of each day. Within this diary the following issues will be addressed.

  • Assessments instruments examined;
  • How assessment instruments will assist in the compilation of a student profile, including strengths and needs; how this will assist the school to meet the step 1 of the SSE process in providing evidence of assessments used within the school;
  • How the content of the day will assist the school identify and meet the needs of pupils with SEN within the framework of the Circular 0014/2017 at post primary and Circular 0013/2017 at primary level.
